Thermage FLX is the fifth-generation Thermage treatment. Combining monopolar radiofrequency and AccuREP® technology, it can reach 4.3 mm into the skin, heating deep tissue evenly and in three dimensions so that collagen fibres contract immediately and collagen production is stimulated. The device has face, eye and body tips, and is currently among the few non-invasive medical aesthetic treatments FDA-cleared for use on the upper eyelid.
Five key benefits
- Immediate skin tightening and lifting: improves nasolabial folds, double chin and jawline laxity
- Stimulates collagen production
- Improves wrinkles and rough skin texture
- Firms the periocular skin (the only treatment FDA-cleared for the upper eyelid)
- Improves neck, jawline and body skin laxity
Five common pitfalls
- Counterfeit devices and tips: radiofrequency energy output is unstable, with a greater chance of burns or swelling
- Deliberately lowering energy: marketed as “painless and cheap”, but it shortens how long results last
- Non-professional operators: Thermage is a medical-grade device and must be operated by qualified personnel
- Older machines passed off as fifth generation: using TC, NXT or CPT older models to impersonate the FLX version
- Believing “zero pain, instant results” marketing: treatment response depends on skin quality, age and collagen status
How to identify genuine product
Thermage FLX is manufactured by Solta Medical in the USA. Points to check: the tip packaging has an authentic “original product” laser label; a “Solta Medical” seal is affixed to the top of the packaging; below is a grey anti-counterfeit seal which, when scratched, reveals a QR Code that, scanned on a phone, jumps to an authentication page. You should request that the original manufacturer tip be opened on the spot.
Treatment frequency and precautions
- Results may last about 12 months; a further session every 9 months to 1 year is recommended
- Non-invasive, with no downtime; normal activity can resume immediately
- After treatment, increase hydration and sun protection, and pause products containing acids, exfoliants or brightening actives for 7 days
